Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The International Students and Scholars Office at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a International Student Engagement Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) to coordinate the department’s international student orientation and engagement initiatives including new student orientation, International First Year Experience Seminar, programming to support international student success, and advising and supporting student organizations.
The International Student Engagement Coordinator will work in coordination with New Student Programs to develop, implement, and assess innovative orientation programming for new international students and ensure continuous improvement. They will also be in charge of the International First Year Experience (IFYE) Seminar, a required one-credit seminar for all new international undergraduate students, by developing curriculum and materials, teaching and coordinating with ISSO staff members who also serve as instructors, supervising undergraduate IFYE Peer Leaders, and evaluating the course. The International Student Engagement Coordinator will develop, implement, and assess innovative programming for a diverse group of international students to ensure their engagement in the university community and support their success. They will also serve as the primary adviser to the International Student Council (ISC) and serve as a resource for other student organizations. This position will supervise multiple graduate assistants to assist with the assigned duties listed above.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated successful experience in international student orientation, course development and teaching, programming, and student organization advising. They will have strong leadership skills, proven success in leading a programming team, experience supervising student workers and advising student organizations, and a track record of successful collaboration with other university departments. They will be able to plan and implement complex events, be aware of innovations in international student programming, and experienced in program evaluation. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work as a team member and problem-solve; work with diverse cultural, social and international populations; respond effectively to unexpected situations; and exercise independent judgment, as well as possess effective written and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and skills in using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in event planning/management, especially planning and management of international student orientation
Experience developing, implementing, and and evaluating student programs in a university environment
Experience with teaching and developing curriculum, ideally in a higher education setting
Experience supervising graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers
Experience advising student organizations
Personal international and/or cross-cultural experience
Employment experience in higher education
Experience delivering presentations both in person and via media
