Full-time staff position at the University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI) leading all business development, marketing, and communications activities required to support UTARI’s research objectives. Reports to the Director of Research and works closely with the Executive Director, Researchers, and Faculty Researchers to find and develop research opportunities with businesses and promote UTARI.
Business Development: Provide a business perspective to UTARI full-time and faculty researchers to ensure we are providing research capabilities that will meet customer needs. Identify potential business partners, source key contacts, and make connections with these contacts to develop research opportunities for UTARI's research areas. Track the portfolio of UTARI's industry, government, and academic partnerships in order to support the research staff in developing strong and lasting collaborations. Attend, manage UTARI presence at, and participate in onsite and offsite conferences, events, and meetings that highlight efforts, promote the research growth of UTARI, and provide opportunities for business development. Follow through on meetings and conferences attended by the Executive Director, Director of Research, and Researchers to develop partnerships and funding opportunities. Identify the need for, develop drafts of, coordinate the execution of, and track all UTARI/Industry agreements including MOU, NDA, Sponsored Research Agreements, Sponsored Services Agreements, Collaborative Research Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, etc. (in collaboration with appropriate University offices). Travel to Austin, TX approximately 2 times per month for 2-3 days at a time to engage in UTARI's and UTA's presence at the Capital Factory including attending networking events, establishing new partnerships, and staying engaged with the resident businesses and agencies. Marketing and Communications: Collaborate on, craft, and edit marketing materials for UTARI that are accurate and complete in order to reach local, regional, and national levels of awareness for UTARI. Recognize and act upon opportunities to enhance the UTARI brand. Coordinate with UTA Communications Office on generating, editing, and publicizing media on UTARI activities and research. Manage the UTARI website to maintain professional, user-friendly appearance and content including updating current events, personnel bios, publications, and student and full-time position opportunities. Manage UTARI social media accounts, generating and posting relevant updates in a timely manner. Other Duties: Maintain relationships with UTA offices including: Research, Communications, Development, Grants and Contract Services, Innovation & Commercialization, and Information Technology. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Strong business acumen. Project coordination and leadership skills. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (or other database tools).
Bachelor degree in relevant field (business, engineering, science, etc). Strong writing, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Documented experience engaging with businesses, start-ups, federal agencies, and state agencies. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in or with a science and/or engineering based organization and/or with technical personnel. Proven track record for developing qualified opportunities that lead to business growth. Some experience in maintaining and updating a web Content Management System (CMS). Some experience editing media using Photoshop, Premiere, Microsoft Publisher, or the like.
