Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)has been chosen by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to be the Data andResearch Center for the Precision Medicine Initiative âAll of Usâ ResearchProgram, a landmark study of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factorsaffecting the health of a million or more people. This initiative requires thedevelopment and maintenance of web applications and APIs to supportparticipants, health provider staff, and researchers.
We are looking for a Python developer withexperience using modern web application frameworks who will work on a datarepository and API that is central to the âAll of Usâ Data and Research Center.All of our applications are continually evolving, requiring flexible softwarearchitecture and the ability to rapidly refactor and modernize. Thecollaborative nature of this project requires excellent communication skillsand the ability to understand and refine requirements.
Bachelorâs degree and 2 years ofweb application development experience
In your pivotal role as a Sr.Application Developer, you will develop and modify software under occasionalguidance; design, code, and perform benchmark testing, as well as debugging anddocumentation of programs. You will implement small projects or components orlarge projects. You must have the ability to solve medium to complex problemsthrough the following technical core competencies:
a.ApplicationDevelopment: Demonstrates proficiency of programming and other developmenttasks independently and without support from others for moderate to difficultapplications. Has conducted all of the tasks and activities required tocomplete the applications development phase and participated in the process offully implementing the system. Able to successfully debug complex routines. Interms of structured programming, has used structured code to produce modules ofstraightforward logic.
b. Applications Development Standards and Procedures: Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfullydemonstrate knowledge of applications development standards and procedures inpractical applications of moderate difficulty. Is attentive to existingapplications development standards and procedures, and may recommendimprovements to existing applications development standards and procedureswithin the work area.
c.ApplicationsSystem Analysis: Has some training in or light exposure to basic systemsanalysis tasks. Participated in one or more systems analysis tasks such as:collection of documents, user interviews, file analysis, process flow charting,functional process modeling, data modeling, feasibility, prototyping, andevaluating existing systems. Able to analyze information and verify itscompleteness. If applicable, has knowledge of the concepts of structuredfunctional specifications, modularity and partitioning.
d.ApplicationsSystem Design: Demonstrates the ability to conduct systems design tasks ina team environment or independently to build or enhance a simple system. Hasconducted the basic phases of systems design including preparing design andfile specifications, preparing testing, conversion, and implementation plans,designing system architecture and process flows, and preparing programrequirements and specifications. Creatively generates multiple potentialsolutions. In terms of structured systems design, if applicable, hasparticipated in the structured design of one or more conventional, relativelyuncomplicated data processing systems as a member of a project team. Isfamiliar with standard methods for functional decomposition. Has participatedin structured design walk-throughs.

Consults on complex research and regulatory issues inconjunction with the team(s) to identify solutions and develop improvementprocesses. The TRN II researches topics of departmental, institutional orstrategic importance.
