Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking an experienced System Administrator for the Office of Information Technology- Enterprise Infrastructure. This position is under the direction of the Active Directory Supervisor, Office of Information Technology (OIT). The System Administrator position provides support for an enterprise level Rutgers Active Directory managed environment and contributes to a technical team responsible for the infrastructure. This position acts as a technical resource for Active Directory to the Rutgers IT communities and acts as a primary Active Directory resource for Rutgers OIT.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Manages, maintains and monitors the stability of the infrastructure and related services related to the Rutgers Active Directory.
Assists clients within Rutgers Active Directory with problem diagnosis and resolution.
Assists with the onboarding/migration of new clients to the Rutgers Active Directory.
Adheres to and develops documentation standards, policies, practices, procedures and security plans.
Identifies services, practices and procedures that need improvement.
Plans work to accomplish individual projects and achieve group objectives.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two years related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience using Windows Server Operating System
Experience using Active Directory Organizational Units (OUs), Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Groups, Sites and Services, Schema Administration, LDAP Queries, Disaster Recovery design and implementation, and cross-forest administration.
Prior experience in Active Directory management, and domain migration or consolidation
Prior experience working in an enterprise technical environment, preferably in a customer service based organization.
Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to succinctly and accurately communicate technical problems to senior staff.
Must be able to handle multiple, shifting priorities and a large volume of technical problem resolution.
Must quickly learn and be able to apply and document new technical knowledge and procedures.
Must work well with peers and senior staff in a team oriented, cooperative spirit.
Understanding of TCP/IP Networks, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Security tools and concepts (VPNs, IDS/IPS, SSL, etc.) is preferred.
Strong Scripting skills in PowerShell or VBScript.
Support experience in the higher education environment is desirable.
Knowledge of Windows server and desktop operating systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
Visual acuity to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds for purpose of moving computer equipment.
This position is currently located on the Newark Campus, but may be relocated or required to work on the New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus.
