The Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences invites applications from outstanding candidates for a fixed term Research Associate position in the area of: Plant-Microbe Interactions, Bacteriology.
Responsibilities will include: (i) determining the role of specific small RNAs in the regulation of virulence factors in the plant pathogen Erwinia amylovora. This work may include molecular cloning, DNA and RNA purification, protein purification, quantitative PCR analyses, and transcriptomic analyses; (ii) studying the regulation of the type III secretion system of E. amylovora by cyclic di-GMP and small RNAs as well as identifying the in planta targets of type III effectors in apple. In addition to the above experimental work, this work may also include bioinformatic analyses.
MSU has a vibrant plant science community comprising of more than 150 faculty members conducting a wide range of plant research spanning the lab-to-field continuum in both natural and agricultural ecosystems. PSM is a multi-disciplinary department with faculty appointed in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR; http://www.canr.msu.edu/).
Doctorate -Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or relate
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or related field. The Ph.D. must be completed at the time of employment. Exceptional candidates from all areas of Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or related fields will be considered.
Applicants must have recent first-author refereed publications covering molecular plant pathology subject matter; plant bacteriology papers are preferred.
