This is an experiential opportunity and is meant to support an individual who is currently working towards a graduate degree related to Higher Education Administration or Student Affairs. The Graduate Intern will be responsible for assisting with program planning and development, workshops, and outreach/publicity in collaboration with Career Services staff and colleagues across the university, while gaining exposure to the operation of an administrative unit within Student Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Career Services staff in planning, developing, executing and facilitating programs such as workshops, speakers and panels, career and graduate school fairs, alumnae activities and other programming.
Assist with marketing of programs and services in conjunction with Career Services staff.
Assist with developing and maintaining employer relations and partnerships.
Update Career Services' website and portal online content under supervision of Assistant Director.
Conduct one-on-one and online sessions with students regarding resume review, graduate school information, mock interviews, internship and job search, career exploration, and other career-related issues under the supervision and with the discretion of the Assistant Director and Director.
Understand services offered and utilize the resources of the Career Services office.
Assist with the maintenance of the Career Services online job board, the Mount Career Network.
Assist with implementation of social media.
Participate in weekly individual one-hour supervision meetings.
Other duties as assigned related to Student Affairs at Mount Saint Mary's University.
Understanding of a university environment and student needs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and Social Media.
Event planning and implementation.
Abilities and Skills:
Effective written and oral communication.
Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, be organized and meet deadlines.
Accurately assess when administrative support is necessary.
Demonstrate skill working with individuals and groups with a wide array of identities and life experiences, including gender, disability, class, race/ethnicity, culture and religion.
Bachelors' degree required
Must be a graduate student in the field of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Career Services, Counseling Psychology or related field for the duration of their internship.
Previous coursework or exposure to career counseling/development is preferred.
Generalist experience in Student Affairs is preferred.
