The University of Saint Joseph invites applications for a full-time (10 month) Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Department of Athletics. This position provides evaluations for injuries sustained during a practice or athletic contest and offers rehabilitation programs for students. The incumbent offers injury prevention techniques and may provide training education programs. The Athletic Department is a fast paced, intensive, high energy environment. Coaches and Staff work intensive schedules including weekends and evenings. The ability to have a flexible schedule and work unconventional hours is required.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)
Prepares and protects existing or likely injuries for students participating in practices and games.
Provides Athletic Trainer coverage at practices and competitions to immediately evaluate injuries and recommend proper care or medical treatment.
Supervises the rehabilitation of a student with an athletic injury and understands the psychological needs of persons with athletic injuries.
Educates and counsels students on athletic injuries and proper nutrition and exercise to help improve overall student health
Under the supervision of the Athletic Trainer, conducts programs relating to Athletic Training and injury prevention
Ensure compliance with all College, NCAA Division III and GNAC policies
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy or Athletic Training; Master's Degree preferred
National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certified
Previous Athletic Training experience at college or university level
CPR and First Aid or EMT Certification required
Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
