PostdoctoralFellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Michelle Puchowicz in theDepartment of Pediatrics at University of Tennessee Health Science Center(UTHSC). The successful candidate will work with Dr. Puchowicz whose researchprogram focuses on metabolism, such as metabolic dysregulation of energetics. Shestudies brain and other organ systems using invivo and some in vitro models ofoxidative injury associated with stroke and hypoxia, as well as disorders ofobesity and diabetes. Dr. Puchowicz is the director of the MetabolicPhenotyping and Mass Spectrometry Cores at UTHSC. The Mass Spectrometryfacility (MPMS) is located within the Proteomic and Metabolomic Core (PMC; an institutionalresearch core that is managed by the UTHSC Office of Research). The MPMSfacility is also affiliated with the basic research program of the PediatricObesity Program, Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Puchowicz's lab focuses on smallmolecule analysis and discovery using various analytical approaches thatinclude mass spectrometry and stable isotopomer applications and is expandingtowards untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics. The candidate should havebiological or chemical applications in mass spectrometry. Training in in vivo animal models and massspectrometry analytics, as well as some core facility operations and managementwill be expected. Researchers in the lab are expected to publish their work inhigh-quality peer reviewed journals and apply for grant funding to furthersupport their research.
