The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Research Associate I/Diagnostic Associate to work in the Serology section of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). The ISUVDL is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory engaged daily in missions of service, instruction, and research. The laboratory receives more than 85,000 submissions from veterinarians and researchers annually. This position will also be responsible for serology sample accessioning and processing in the mail room each morning.
This position will serve as the primary testing technician for one of our subjective endpoint testing laboratories. These subjective testing laboratories conduct virus neutralization (VN), immunofluorescence (IFA), hemagglutination inhibition (HI), complement fixation (CF), and microagglutination tests. Which of the subjective endpoint testing laboratory responsibilities that will be given to the selected candidate will be dependent upon the background and experience of the candidate. This position will also be responsible for some Enzyme Linked Immunoassay (ELISA) testing. It would be the desired goal that the selected individual would, over the course of time, train and become proficient in all areas of our subjective endpoint testing laboratories along with the mastery of viral propagation and cell culture maintenance.
The successful candidate will possess strong math skills, an understanding of sterile technique, excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity, and computer skills required to competently perform the duties of this position. The candidate will also possess leadership traits, a strong commitment to customer service, be intuitive to identify and assume any role needed within the section to support the laboratory's mission, and exhibit a strong attitude of collegiality.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience in at least one of the following testing procedures: VN, IFA, CF, HI, or microagglutination testing. - Experience with antibody assay function and development. - Experience in a high volume laboratory setting.
Hours of this position will be 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
