Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Course and Graduate Student Coordinator (Program Assistant II). This position will provide programmatic and administrative support in the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) department.
Primary duties include managing academic support for all of the VDPAM professional and graduate courses, and working with the College of Veterinary Medicine's Office of Academic and Student Affairs and the Iowa State University Graduate College. This position will provide programmatic support for VDPAM 4th year professional student preceptorships, Veterinary Preventive Medicine (VPM) Masters and Graduate Certificates, and Population Sciences in Animal Health (POPSC) PhD; as well as the VDPAM Director of Graduate Education (DOGE) and the VDPAM Research and Graduate Studies Committee. Duties include managing the application process for graduate students and for faculty applying for graduate faculty status. This position will also provide administrative support to and serve as a backup for the Veterinary Field Service Unit of VDPAM, and provide some administrative assistance dually to the Director of Food Supply Veterinary Medicine and the VDPAM Chair.
It is expected that this individual will organize and help execute some small research projects, and will be responsible for managing the supplies for various projects for faculty. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff and students; possess excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, decision making and problem solving skills; and the have the ability to work independently.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with the animal agriculture industry. - Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, or related field. - Experience working with professional and/or graduate students. - Experience that demonstrates knowledge of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University's Graduate College policies and procedures.
