The University of Connecticut, Stamford campus, seeks applicants to serve as a Campus Visits Coordinator on the Stamford campus. The primary responsibilities of the position are to provide oversight and facilitation of the campus visits program, including hiring, training and supervision of student guides, coordination of visit registration, confirmation and follow-up, conducting presentation to campus visitors, and giving tours as needed. The position works under the supervision of the Stamford campus Admissions officer, under the direction of the Stamford campus Director, with close collaboration with the leadership of the Lodewick Visitors Center at UConn Storrs.
This position requires flexibility in work schedule to support recruitment initiatives and includes occasional weekends, as well as changes in schedule due to special events or holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for planning and logistical support of visits by prospective students and their families, as well as school groups, to UConn Stamford. The position is responsible for every aspect of the Stamford campus visit experience, from registration, correspondence with visitors, logistics associated with the visit (arranging parking, directions to campus, etc.), ensuring positive first impressions for visitors, developing the tour script in collaboration with campus leadership, the Lodewick Visitors Center and University Communications.
The successful staff member will arrange a visitation schedule, which allows for visit availability during normal business hours throughout the calendar year. Some weekend visits are also likely. This includes ensuring availability of UConn Stamford facilities for tours, including the main building’s classrooms, commons areas and service offices and the residence hall’s public spaces, classrooms, commons areas and show room. The individual will collaborate with UConn department of Residential Life on establishing a show room that is an accurate and positive representation of the student experience.
The Campus Visits Coordinator will also hold responsibility for hiring, training and supervising a talented and diverse group of student guides, who will be primarily responsible for delivering a quality experience through welcoming and guiding students while on campus.
The candidate is expected to use excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to write clearly and informatively, interpret written information, compose routine letters and emails, and respond appropriately and in a timely manner to inquiries and concerns. The candidate would also be expected to accurately enter information into various computer programs, paying close attention to detailed information to ensure accuracy and completeness of databases reports. Candidates should have a working knowledge of office equipment, ability to troubleshoot issues, maintain positive working relationships with campus departments, student workers, and campus community.
The candidate will support the Stamford campus outreach schedule and involvement in open houses, receptions, and outreach activities on and off campus, while seeking input and assistance from University departments such as student support services, financial aid and Admissions.
Bachelor’s degree; three – five years in related experience working directly with high school/college students and with diverse and under-represented audiences in a responsible administrative or managerial support position, demonstrated ability to work independently and regularly exercise judgment regarding a wide variety of administrative matters; familiarity with database programs and record keeping, demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to problem solve with attention to detail and long term goals, strong interpersonal communications skills and excellent writing skills.
Master’s degree; experience working in organizations committed to diversity; knowledge of a variety of computer applications especially Word products and Excel and Access statistical reporting programs; knowledge of the college application and enrollment processes. Spanish speaking and literacy a plus.
This is a permanent full-time position with a rotating schedule that includes open and closing shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Candidates may be subject to a complete background check.
