This positionserves as a liaisonwith our outside insurance brokersand carriers in thestewardship of the university'scomprehensive insurance program and requiresknowledge and understanding of a range ofcommercial products including general liability, property, auto,network security as well as additional specialty areas relative to Vanderbilt operations.
Risk and Insurance Management (RIM) is responsible for thestrategic planningand oversight of the university's comprehensive insurance programand for directing risk management processesin collaboration with other university departments to assurepersons and assets are appropriately protected. The team works with all levels of Vanderbilt departments and externalinsurance brokers and carriers to ensure the institution has the adequatetypes and amounts of insurance coverage. Using robustclaim trend analysis and marketresearch, the team advises departments on opportunities to reduce claims, mitigate risk and ensure appropriate insurance coverage is in place. RIM is also responsible for the oversightand administration of the Protection of Minorspolicy and working with departments to implementpractices to safeguardminors in all university operations and facilities.
Duties and responsibilities
Servesas liaison with outside insurance broker in the procurement and management of the university's comprehensiveinsuranceprogram.
Directsthe annual processof collecting required underwriting information for all new and renewal insurance policies,including preparation of materialsto obtain Chancellor and Vice Chancellor approval, when required
Overseescollection of confidential data regarding loss exposures,claim payments, reserves,and payrolls asrequired for actuarialstudies, premiumaudits, surveys,and insurance reviews
Analyzesinsurance policies for accuracy of coverage and appropriate endorsements
Managesand oversees payment of and accounting for premium invoices and complexinternal premium allocations for purchased insurance.
Reviewsinsurance language and advise on types and limits in contractual arrangements for operations such as procurement of services, vendors, space and facility rental, partnerships and agreements, research, construction projects, and others as needed.
Managesdepartmental requests for Certificates of Insurance, including evaluation of appropriateness and evaluate Certificates received from vendors and contractors.
Participates in variouscampus committees to providerisk management advice and expertise; activelyengage campuspartners to create short and long-termworking groups when specific risks are identified.
Communicates with staff and faculty throughout all levels of the university and with brokers and other insurance industry partners regarding insurance coverage questions, premium charges, building projects,budget forecasting, special events, and various other insurance questions.
Serves as an insuranceclaims manager responsible for the direction, oversight, and management of claims or potentialclaims against the university including, but not limitedto general / premises liability, property, and automobile liability. This management includes full cycleprocess of claimsreview and reporting, investigation, working with third partiesandTPAs as needed, evaluation for subrogation,and assessment prior to closure.
Uses data analytics to identify claim trendsand make recommendations to improvethe safety of the campus forfaculty, staff, students,and visitors.
Processesand analyze Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) and verifytraining as neededforthose driving on behalf of the university per university procedures. Process all requestsand payments forvarious bonds
Providessupport for Protection of Minors program registration procedures, web application, and reporting. This supportincludes:
completion and distribution of Oracle BI reports
troubleshoot web application issuesand perform operational testing
assure successful compliance file uploading and functioning integrations withmultiple university systems
assist departments with functional use and navigation of the webapplication tool as needed
gather and compileinformation relevant to compliance monitoring
Profile ofan Ideal Candidate
ABachelor's degree from anaccredited institution ofhigher education is necessary.
