Senior Application Developer/Professional Technologist 5.82 - ITS 11556
Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Senior Application Developer (Professional Technologist 5.82) . This position will be responsible for the administration and management of the University's Banner student information system, Blackboard learning management system, Salesforce organization, and numerous integrated and interfaced systems which provide mission-critical services to faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni. The Senior Application Developer will provide expert professional knowledge and direction regarding the analysis, design, and development of software solutions which deliver new or enhanced services and streamline business processes.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Act as an expert technical advisor and lead the design and development phases of software projects. Utilize expert knowledge to analyze data models and create design plans and standards for the project to guide the work of junior developers to ensure holistic, reliable, secure, and sustainable solutions.
Lead development projects by managing and coaching junior developers assigned to the project. Assign development tasks and monitor progress, review work for accuracy, functionality, and adherence to defined standards, and ensure proper unit testing.
Utilize extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to establish and continually improve software development standards and lifecycles.
Advise and coach junior developers to ensure information security is operationalized within the development team and fully integrated into the software development lifecycle.
Advise and coach junior developers to ensure proper utilization of version control and application development workflow tools.
Ensure Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) terminology, concepts, and processes are integrated into the software development lifecycle.
Perform various development tasks, such as coding, application development, and web development, primarily related to the Banner student information system and its ecosystem of integrated and interfaced systems using various coding languages.
Collaborate with business analysts and business users at all stages of the software development lifecycle to ensure customer satisfaction with the final product.
Bachelor's degree required; degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field is preferred.
Master's degree preferred.
Six (6) years of related work experience required:
Designing, developing, and deploying Banner applications.
Designing, developing, and deploying web applications.
Designing, developing, and deploying Oracle database solutions relative to legacy Banner application code.
Using a full software development life cycle (SDLC), including planning, analysis, design, implementation, integration and testing, deployment, and maintenance for highly complex solutions.
Leading or supervising technical personnel.
Extensive knowledge of Linux or Unix based operating systems and Oracle databases.
Expert ability to code with SQL, PL/SQL, SQL*LOADER, and Pro*C (or C/C++).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues to both non-technical and technical audiences.
