Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) is seeking an Educational Support Specialist. You will report to the Director of Academic Resource Center. In this role, you will provide reading comprehension support to students (mostly freshman) and help them to improve their understanding of the texts. You will also provide support service at all levels of writing competency including but not limited to, generating content, argument analysis and production, topic organization, outlining and revision strategies, grammar/mechanics/punctuation, document design and style (often related to cohesion, concision, and transitions), and citations. The goal is not to produce a perfect piece of writing, but to help teach the student how to better his/her work. You will have the opportunity to provide writing assistance to a diverse student body of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds in a broad range of genres and academic activities, including assigned papers, laboratory reports, research papers, cover letters for an internship or graduate school, and senior theses. Given the broad range of subject matter, it is essential that the Educational Support Specialist absorbs the material the student is writing about quickly to be helpful in the tutoring session.
Core responsibilities will include:
Tutoring members of the CMUQ campus community predominantly, undergraduate students;
Coaching students on academic probation on study skills, goal setting, time management etc;
Partnering with relevant faculty members, as necessary;.
Designing and delivering study skills workshops to the student community each semester;
Coordinating with and being a mentor to subject related Undergraduate Course Assistant;
Attending weekly ARC staff meetings;
Maintaining orderliness and operation of the Academic Resource Center (like entering appointments into booking system, offering proctoring services, filing/administrative tasks, and be flexible in work hours to ensure adequate coverage, etc.);
Providing input and suggestions to improve ARC operations;
Performing other tasks as assigned by Director of ARC.

*Please note that this position is for nine months only (mid-August through mid-May approximately), but it is renewable.
BA degree, preferably in Rhetoric, English literature or Professional Writing is required;
MA degree, preferably in Rhetoric, English literature or Professional Writing is preferred;
Prior work experience desired.
