Managing Director, Law and Health Care Program - (190000HE)
University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) Francis King Carey School of Law is currently seeking a Managing Director of Law and Health Care Program. The Law & Health Care Program at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is an area of concentration for law students and faculty. Students interested in health law may receive a certificate of concentration on completion of all course requirements. Approximately 30 students each year receive a certificate. The program sponsors conferences, workshops, and lectures for scholars, students and the broader academic and practice community. Faculty affiliated with the program conduct research on a wide range of topics related to health law, policy & ethics. The program has an active student organization and works closely with the student edited Journal of Health Care Law & Policy. In addition, the Program supports a strong health law externship program with approximately 25 placements each year.
The Managing Director of Law and Health Care Program performs professional staff and analytical work of more than average difficulty. This position reports to Professor Diane Hoffmann, Director of the Law & Health Care Program. This position handles all administrative aspects of the Law & Health Care Program, including management of the externship program, conferences and other events, writing and production of all promotional materials, and submission of grant applications. Some teaching and research are also involved as well as extensive interaction with law students and collaboration with faculty at the law school and at other schools on the UMB campus. The work requires the application of a high degree of technical skill, knowledge and judgment in the use of fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, standards and guides. This position supervises the administrative assistant for the Law and Health Care -Program and student research assistants.

Administers Health Law Externship Program and teaches or co-teaches the Health Law Practice Workshop.
Manages all Law & Health Care Program conferences, speakers series, and panel discussions.
Writes, edits, and/or oversees print production of Program promotional materials, including nationally-distributed program newsletters, Mid-Atlantic Ethics Committee newsletters, conference/event brochures. Composes program correspondence and responses to requests for program information.
Researches, analyzes and summarizes information and source materials for reports and academic articles.
Organizes and manages student health law competitions including the Law & Health Care Program's Health Care Regulatory and Compliance Competition as well as outside competitions.
Organizes the work flow within the Law & Health Care Program and allocates work to program coordinator and student assistants by matching their skills/abilities with the requirements of the job.
Acts as intermediary for Program Director of Law and Health Care Program, interacting with officials, staff at all levels and the public. Provides information requiring comprehensive knowledge of institutional policies and procedures and special Law & Health Care Program issues. Interprets policy and rules for others. Relieves Program Director of all administrative and operational details.
Oversees joint degree programs relevant to health law students, e.g., JD MPH, JD PharmD, JD MS (Nursing), and JD MPP (Health Policy).
Actively recruits students for the program.
Facilitates career development and job placement of students and graduates in collaboration with the Career Development Office.
Works closely with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations to strengthen relationships with graduates of the program and identify opportunities for alumni engagement.
Oversees accounting of program funds for Program Director.
Acts as liaison with the Student Health Law Organization and assists students in organization of student initiatives including off campus activities such as service trips.
Researches grant funding and writes grant proposals.
Assists Law & Health Care Program faculty with academic research and related empirical surveys.
Education: J.D. from an ABA approved law school required. Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in professional administrative and/or program/practice management required. Background in Health Care Law preferred.
