Provides data support for University Advancement’s fundraising efforts through report preparation, list generation, data maintenance, prospect research, and scholarship data management.
Prepare reports for departmental, institutional, and external needs, including the Council for Aid to Education (VSE Survey)
Generate routine and ad hoc reports
Generate lists from Raiser’s Edge and prepare data for mail, email, and phone solicitations and communications
Manage data related to endowed and annual scholarships, including, but not limited to, importing balances into Raiser’s Edge, preparing account statements, and coordinating the student thank you note process
Enter data into Raiser’s Edge, using manual entry, scanning, and data file imports
Monitor queries to audit constituent data in Raiser’s Edge to ensure accuracy and
consistency of data entry
Create and maintain NetCommunity online giving pages
Research donors and prospective donors, utilizing in-house files and a variety of online sources to identify prospects who have an interest in, and capacity for, making a major gift
Prepare confidential profile reports on major gift prospects for meetings and strategy planning, and prepare briefings for development events
Serve as backup in the following areas, completing these tasks at least twice monthly to retain knowledge and skills:
Gift processing for all gift types and sources
Enter gift adjustments in Raiser’s Edge, as needed
Add new constituent records to Raiser’s Edge and CARS databases, as needed
Create new fund records in Raiser’s Edge, as needed
Constituent data management in Raiser’s Edge (changes to contact information, relationships, etc.)
Perform other duties and respond to other department needs, as assigned
2-3 years work experience in the non-profit fundraising field;
Experience working with a relational database, preferably Raiser’s Edge;
Knowledge of gift vehicles (cash, securities, real estate, in-kind, personal property); types of planned giving vehicles (trusts, bequests, pooled income funds);
Adept at queries and report writing;
Knowledge of general accounting and fiscal management;
Knowledge of prospect management and prospect tracking principles and methods;
Experience in data mining techniques and procedures and knowing when their use is appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources;
Proven writing skills - the ability to successfully write and edit professional fundraising
Advanced analytical skills and ability to interpret/analyze complex financial and legal documents;
Skill in analyzing and organizing information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations;
Excellent computer skills: internet search engines and advanced search techniques, fundraising software, data retrieval services (e.g. ResearchPoint, LexisNexis, Wealth Engine, Foundation Directory), MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel, in particular);
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - the ability to successfully interact with a variety of people on different levels, and comfort with speaking and presenting research in a group setting;
Strong organizational skills - the ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to prioritize a multi-faceted workload under strict deadlines, sometimes with limited guidance;
Flexibility and patience - the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently, and the willingness to meet unexpected demands with a positive attitude;
Attentiveness to detail and accuracy in data entry, reporting, fact finding, and writing;
Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information;
Excellent customer service skills.
Work is performed with minimal direction or supervision; participates in determining objectives of assignment; plans, schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives; work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives
Ability to develop solutions to moderate or complex problems while following guidelines and policies set out by University Advancement
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
