Family Prosperity Coordinator (Social Worker) - (190000FV)
The Promise Heights program at the University of Maryland School of Social Work is currently recruiting for a Social Worker to implement the Family Prosperity Program. The Family Prosperity Program is asset-building work to help families improve their financial capability, access appropriate and affordable financial products, build savings, and avoid predatory practices. An action plan is established with each client to support their goals to improve family prosperity by examining a client's relationship with money, financial behavior, and financial information and knowledge. This position will work on the macro-level through workshops and seminars for community-wide and school-wide change in policies and behaviors, as well as on the micro-level with individual clients. The Family Prosperity Coordinator will also work with local businesses to create workforce development opportunities for community residents.
The Promise Neighborhood program is a U.S. Department of Education initiative focused on breaking the cycle of inter-generational poverty by significantly improving the educational and developmental outcomes and overall life prospects of children and youth in our most distressed communities. The core idea behind the initiative is to provide both effective schools and strong systems of support to children, youth and their families in poverty and thus meeting their health, social services, and educational needs. The University of Maryland School of Social Work is the lead agency for the Promise Heights Promise Neighborhood in the Upton/Druid Heights neighborhood in West Baltimore. Promise Heights is charged with working with community-based organizations, schools, faith-based institutions, and others to build a pipeline of wraparound services to ensure pathways out of poverty for youth and their families.

Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify and construct service plans that best meet the client's needs, and determine best resources available. Counsel individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, social adjustment, child care, and/or medical care.
Develop plans by identifying programs and services available for a variety client issues dealing with challenges, change, and crisis. Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform case reviews and generate notes on client meetings, assessments, reports, and other accountability measures.
Assist in conceptualization, development, and drafting of written products such as training materials, website content, final progress reports, promotional materials, recommendations, and other information resources for the improvement of the organizational element or its programs.
Provide training, guidance, and support to others preparing for program implementation, including MSW interns and peer coaches.
Develop recruiting plan for program participants, members, and volunteers. Develop and facilitate workshops, meetings or conferences; coordinate logistics, scheduling and participant communications. Provides case counseling and case management to those enrolled in the program.
Monitor and facilitate use of program funds to support needed resources. Makes recommendations to local project lead in use of funds. Prepare and analyze program financial statements, expenditures, and budgets for management or outside agencies.
With guidance from Director of Data Management & Program Evaluation, Family Prosperity Coordinator will assist in evaluating program effectiveness to develop improved methods, devise and implement evaluation methodology, analyze results, and recommend and/or take appropriate action.
Education: Master's in Social Work Preferred Experience: Financial social work experience is preferred. License/Certification: Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Maryland
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies utilizing proper application of diagnostic tools. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population using various approved interviewing techniques and consultative approaches. Ability to independently construct comprehensive assessments. Skill in organizing and managing a caseload.
Able to perform position in compliance with all requirements, regulations, and laws. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology. Skill in analyzing complex topics, policies, and procedures in order to prepare detailed summaries and reports. Possess excellent time management and organizational skills. Proficient in information technology word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for resolving problems and facilitating decision-making processes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act), and state regulations.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Ability to maintain confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with others to meet client expectations, and provide follow up with clients. Ability to work with individuals and/or families from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. Skill and ability to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies, facilities, and community organizations.
Hiring Range is for this position is within the $50,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
