Essential Functions: Job PurposeProvide university-wide support; consultation in effective online and digital pedagogy; and expertise in instructional design and implementation to faculty. Recommend instructional strategies in the development of instructional design objectives, guidelines and procedures.Serve as an instructional design subject matter expert to ensure that online design methodology is consistently applied to all eLearning projects. Answer questions and provide technical expertise in instructional design processes and effective ways of delivering eLearning.Identify, test, assess, and recommend selection of appropriate instructional multimedia technology (i.e., personal computers, authoring programs, digital still and video equipment, graphical design software and hardware, etc.). Apply best practices of ADA, Fair Use, and Copyright compliance to the online learning experience.Write effective copy, instructional text, and audio scripts/video scripts.Design, develop and produce product-based and technical training for multiple venues: virtual classroom, live classroom, and self-paced that accomplish designated learning objectives. Design and facilitate workshops, support virtual faculty learning communities, and collaborate with academic departments and related service units on campus-wide teaching initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation Master's degreeMaster's degree in information technology, education, instructional design, communications or business or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ph.D. preferred.Experience Five years' experience in instructional design using learning management systems and advanced multimedia and/or e-learning authoring software. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to effectively communicate and consult effectively with faculty and administrators from across the disciplines and with both technical and nontechnical audiences. Willingness to develop collaborative and supportive relationships with faculty. Strong interpersonal skills and patience required.Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to: effectively present information one on one and to small and large groups; negotiate, persuade and influence others; proficient at editing documents for accuracy, grammar and spelling; and ability to vary writing style to meet audience needsGeneral knowledge of requirements for accessibility compliance and principles of universal instructional design is preferred.Knowledgeable about current course design, assessment, and teaching strategies in a higher education environment. Skilled at implementing best practices using emerging technology tools and applications.Experience conducting needs assessments and identifying appropriate instructional methods, resources, and technologies for use in traditional, hybrid, and online environments is preferred.Works well in group problem solving situations. Meets challenges with resourcefulness as well as generates suggestions for improving work.Expert-level user of office productivity software including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Highly proficient in the use of eLearning applications and tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate, Wimba, Live Cycle, Lectora, Flash, One Button Studio, Adobe Acrobat and other authoring tools. Experience with graphics programs such as Photoshop and knowledge of SCORM compliant shells. Must be a quick learner with other eLearning tools.Looks for and takes advantage of opportunities.
