The primary purpose of the Associate Director for Student Programming position is to lead, manage, and advise the team responsible for over 200 weekly and major events per academic year. They supervise professional staff members that are responsible for the advisement of the Student Activities Board in the areas of program planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position will aid in the holistic development of ECU students by developing, planning, promoting, staffing, and assessing a wide range of diverse events/programs for the campus community. This position will also promote student-learning objectives for over 100 members of the Student Activities Board along with ensuring programs meet the goals and outcomes set for the office. This position will implement and utilize student development theory and promote the understanding of regional, state, national, and global issues.
Position Duties: Ensure a diverse programming schedule is implemented that includes weekly events, weekend alternative programming, and major campus traditions. Supervise full time professional staff members and a graduate assistant that advise the Student Activities Board (SAB) and work closely with the SAB executive board. Both lead and be on program teams for major and tradition based events at ECU including alternative Friday night programming (Pirates After Dark), last day of class festival event (Barefoot on the Mall), Civility Summit, MLK Day Service projects and keynote speaker, Halloween night programming (Halloween Havoc), and more. Lead once a week lunch time programming (Power Hour) to include musical acts, novelty items, information tabling and involvement fairs, along with partnership opportunities with national brands such as Coca-Cola. Supervise a professional staff member responsible for programming for graduate and professional students and advocacy for that population of students. With a professional staff member manage a robust schedule of programs for the Health Science Student Center that best serve that large population of students. Serve as an expert on campus on event logistics, program marketing, working with talent agencies to book acts, and assisting brainstorming of programs to implement. Maintain a knowledge of program opportunities and venue availability, contact agents and artists management, negotiate program contracts, supervise development and placement of program publicity, manage a very large programming budget from multiple sources, and assist with program production and house management. Provide quarterly reports on expenditures and any updates to projected spending and ensure the budget is not overspent. Hire, train, and supervise team members. Provide consistent professional development through career action plans and building expertise. Oversee educational program offerings including speakers, debates, and workshops. Oversee robust marketing efforts for all programs and stay current on the best practices to market to students. Develop, plan and facilitate the annual training, retreats, and leadership development opportunities for the student leaders in the Student Activities Board. Collect and report the assessment results that examine the effectiveness, attractiveness, relevance, and impact of the programs supported by the office and the Student Activities Board. Manage potential risks and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
Advise ECU students and staff on university policies and procedures that affect programming. Serve on various Divisional and University-wide committees as assigned. Present at national conferences and publish articles on programming, leadership development, marketing, or other areas of expertise. Other duties as assigned.

Master's Degree required in college student personnel administration, higher education or related field of study and previous successful experience in the area of program coordination, student activities and student organization advising. Demonstrated experience and skill in the following areas: entertainment contract negotiation and review; budget development and management; program planning and implementation; student advising; and student learning assessment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Minimum of 3 years of related experience that can include time as a graduate assistant. The Office of Student Activities and Organizations (SAO) at East Carolina University provides over 200 weekly programs for the campus community, plans and executes the largest campus traditions, offers leadership development for the Student Activity Board members, and supports over 480 student organizations with workshops, trainings, marketing design, and much more.
