Assistant or Associate Professor in Statistics: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a full-time tenure-eligible position in statistics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2019. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is located in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. The department’s 18 tenure-track members include pure and applied mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators. The faculty directly supports bachelor degree programs in Mathematics and Applied Statistics for roughly 100 majors, an M.S. degree program in Applied and Computational Mathematics, a program leading to secondary mathematics teaching certification, and a certificate in Mathematics for Finance. The faculty offers substantial support through service courses to engineering, education, and science students. Responsibilities include teaching introductory through graduate statistics courses. The standard teaching load is 18 credit hours per year. Incoming assistant professors receive release time for a total of three courses (nine credit hours) to be used during the first three years of the six-year probationary period to allow more time for research. The University employs a Teacher-Scholar Model where teaching, research, and service are all valued. The requirements for tenure and promotion include research capability demonstrated by publication in refereed journals and excellence in teaching.

The position requires a doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, data science, mathematics, or related fields.
Candidates with a PhD in mathematics should:
Possess a masters degree (or equivalent) in an area directly applied to statistics
Provide written documentation of statistical experience if lacking a masters degree
Successful candidates should exhibit a thriving research program in their field, a commitment to statistics education from the freshman level through applied graduate statistics courses, and potential for continuing scholarly contributions. A positive attribute is an interest in involving undergraduate and graduate students in research projects. Applicants near completion of a doctorate are encouraged to apply.
