Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Faculty Director of the Vassar Urban Education Initiative (VCUEI), the VC English Language Learner Program Administrator (VELLOP), is responsible for the operations of an English language tutoring program in the Poughkeepsie City District, including supervising work-study students and volunteers. This position is a 10 month position with a one year term with the possibility of renewal/extension for an additional year. This position starts August 15, 2019. Responsibilities:
Provide supervision of student mentors participating either voluntarily, via fieldwork and/or community service work-study;
Schedule students in classrooms and act as liaison to teachers who are utilizing the tutors to assure that the work benefits student, tutor, and teacher;
Assist in recruiting tutors and assist in training;
Institute and maintain records of activity and assist in data collection (attendance, plans, surveys) to assess program outcomes;
Arrange transportation to and from schools for mentors as needed;
Plan two annual learner events and organize book giveaway program;
Maintain communication about program with Vassar students and teachers via social media or blog;
Tutor students as needed;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications: College Degree required; Some experience in education or related field required. Experience in school/college partnerships and or community outreach programs strongly preferred; Demonstrated multicultural competence, and knowledge and/or experience working with low-income, underrepresented, and students from diverse backgrounds; Native level speaker of Spanish preferred; Valid driver's license required; Ability to travel within the area frequently.
