Detailed Job Description The Director of Applications Development is accountable for all activities performed by the technical applications teams and associated management supporting RIT's Enterprise Business Applications, Student Applications, Web and Mobile Applications, and Enterprise Data Management. This role includes responsibilities for providing production support and incident resolution to business partners, overseeing all aspects of the software development lifecycle, and ensuring the development and support needs of our business partners are effectively and efficiently met.
The Director of Applications Development is responsible for continuously evolving the strategic vision, culture, processes, staff development, leadership development and employee engagement of Applications Development while also positively influencing and promoting these values ITS wide.
They shall establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with our business partners and constituents, becoming integrated with tactical and strategic planning processes that advance the mission of RIT; they are a motivational leader that is highly collaborative, empowering, and promotes organizational agility. The Director of Applications Development is a key member of the ITS Senior Leadership Team.
Required Minimum Qualifications
8 or more years of progressive IT management experience
4 or more years of direct-report personnel management experience
10 or more years proven success in the effective delivery of IT solutions and/or services
12 or more years involvement with, management of and/or exposure to SDLCs, Change Management, ERP Solutions, Web & Mobile Development, Data Management & Analytics and/or Application Architectures
Familiarity with IT security policies, procedures, and standards
Excellent leadership skills including the ability to encourage, inspire, motivate, collaborate, and empower
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills including active listening and diplomacy
Ability to build and maintain highly effective relationships across RIT
Demonstrable skills and experience in critical thinking, customer service, problem solving, decision making, and time management
Ability to present complex technical concepts in a manner that can be understood by diverse constituents including business partners, technical staff, end users, etc.
Ability to translate organizational goals and objectives into executable projects
Ability to develop and facilitate effective meetings, workshops, training, and presentations
Able to be given general guidance on an objective and achieve that objective with minimal direction.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
A willingness and ability to work as part of a team as well as an individual contributor
Ability to develop, coach and engage staff and effectively manage staff performance
Ability to learn technical, functional, and business concepts implemented at RIT
Ability to adapt to new organizational, business, and technical environments
Ability to lead and manage organizational and process change
Responsible for understanding and following information security best practices, university policies, and information security standards impacting this role including use of any tools, technologies, services, and processes required to protect the universitys information assets.
Work collaboratively to identify, communicate, and where appropriate, manage or remediate risks and information security vulnerabilities.
Familiarity or experience with the ITIL framework or ITIL Foundations Certification
Familiarity or experience with higher education environments and processes
Familiarity or experience with Research Computing
Familiarity or experience with security frameworks and guidelines (NIST, PCI, etc.)
Familiarity or experience with agile concepts including Scrum, Kanban, DSDM, XP, etc.
