The Quantum Chemistry Project (QCP) in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Administrative Assistant II. The QCP supports many different theoretical and computational activities, such as development of theories and models for chemistry, biochemistry, materials, physics and engineering. In addition, the QCP supports the development of algorithms and methods that are efficient on many different types of computers, especially massively parallel computers, and application of models to elucidate physical and chemical properties of many different types of chemical systems. This position coordinates and manages all pre-award grant activities of the QCP and affiliated funds/projects, including sub-awards to many co-investigators in many collaborating institutions worldwide. The Administrative Assistant will also interface with the appropriate financial experts in the LAS College and ISU to coordinate the program's more than $5 million operating budget and $350,000 equipment budget (funds obtained through grants to both Iowa State University and the Ames Laboratory). The Administrative Assistant will advise faculty and principal investigators in budget development, projections, and annual review reports, in conjunction with the appropriate ISU and Las financial people. Furthermore, the candidate will coordinate personnel actions for the QCP in conjunction with the LAS College Human Resource Liaison and/or the Human Resource Department of the Ames Laboratory US Department of Energy. The candidate provides training and follow-up for undergraduate/graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with regard to the Ames Laboratory, the Department of Chemistry, and Iowa State University policies and procedures. The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally) are necessary in order to be successful in the position. Lastly, the successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently or as a member of a team on multiple, simultaneous projects.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in a university setting.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies to employee/student procedures.
Experience working with diverse work groups across different departments to accomplish goals.
