The University of Iowa; Division of Student Life; University Housing & Dining is seeking a Supervisor for Custodial Services to coordinate, supervise, inspect, and be responsible for the work activities of custodians in accordance with established guidelines. Duties to include:
Performing daily building tours to assess cleanliness, interact with staff and report building concerns.
Communicating all work performance or building concerns to appropriate staff.
Coaching, counseling and assisting in disciplinary processes involving staff, providing accurate documentation records.
Providing follow up and resolution to problems.
Scheduling and assigning work for direct reports.
Performing personnel functions including interviewing, hiring and assisting with discipline.
Training new and current employees on departmental procedures and equipment.
Managing inventory of departmental supplies.
Overseeing and participating in furniture delivery, assembly, movement and storage.
Assisting in planning the advancement of the Department strategic goals.
Being the first call and respondent to custodial emergencies during and after business hours.
Overseeing all custodial functions in relation to Bloodborne Pathogen response.
Accepting departmental deliveries of supplies and equipment.

Successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal background check.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Custodial experience (typically 2 years or more).
Supervisory experience (typically 6 months or more).
Experience assigning daily work activities, inspecting and monitoring quality of work, and scheduling/coordinating work activities.
Commercial custodial experience.
Experience supervising a large number of staff (typically 12 or more individuals).
Experience working in a diverse environment.
Experience training staff.
Experiencing maintaining or preparing records, reports, and inventories.
Knowledge of proper positioning and moving techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of individuals, including students and visitors.
Ability to work in a variety of environments and adapt to changing situations.
Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment.
Interest in and the ability to learn basic computer and keyboarding skills; including the ability to access and draft email correspondence and the ability to manage electronic time accruals and personal absence requests. Previous experience is highly desired.
