Reporting to the Associate Director of Teaching and Research in the Office for Online Learning (HMX), the Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for supporting the course development team and subject matter experts working on HMX's high quality online medical education courses.
The Coordinator will work as a key member of the HMX curriculum team to support online course development. This individual will form an important part of the broader HMX team of educators and creative professionals that conceptualizes develops, and produces HMX's high-quality online medical courses. This individual will support the team in course development processes; will participate in the setup of learning experiences within the learning platform; will hold significant responsibility for beta-testing and quality-assurance work; and will support course delivery by maintaining and updating existing courses and managing work schedules for the course moderators.
The ideal candidate should have a deep interest, and preferably experience, in the field of online education, along with a strong desire to offer a superior educational product to a diverse online audience. The candidate should be known for careful attention to detail and rigor in the documentation, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong writing, and grammar skills, the ability to problem solve and work independently, and the ability to frame clear, concise questions for quick, effective discussion and action. The candidate should be comfortable in an educational setting, capable of working at a fast pace, and able to learn new technologies quickly. Strong interest and some experience in the medical sciences is preferred.
Organize, implement, and refine processes related to course content development, production, and delivery, in support of the Associate Director for Teaching and Research and other subject-matter experts on the curriculum team
Support curriculum team in the setup of online learning experiences in the HMX learning management system (an Open EdX environment)
Gather relevant course and student data for reporting and analysis; organize and curate student data to inform priorities for course updates and maintenance; perform basic reporting tasks; contribute to the creation of reports to institutional partners on student experience and success
Perform beta testing and quality assurance checks for new online learning experiences, including proofreading and cross-checking documents, art, video, and other assets for grammar, formatting, and/or consistency
Document and implement the updating and maintenance of existing online courses, including implementation of routine course fixes (typos, image updates, short answer assessment answer options, etc.) and the addition of new assets into course instances
Manage work schedules for part-time, temporary curriculum team members, including course moderators and other interns
Special projects as assigned
HMX is an educational initiative at Harvard Medical School dedicated to creating fully online courses on foundational topics in medicine. 3 years of work experience in higher education, instructional technology, curriculum services, or other related work environments. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
