The General Accountant (GA) provides a number of accounting activities including monthly close, financial reporting, VAT and other tax accounting. The GA supports the Associate Director with work related to journal processing, accounts reconciliation, cash deposits, audit support, and non-student invoicing. This position helps support student account functions when required
As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking only for locally-based candidates who have a valid Qatar residence permit.
Record and report monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial transactions; Ensure monthly balance sheet reconciliation and compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner;
Review transactions within operating units to determine compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and special restrictions;
Execute VAT compliance, planning, and internal procedures. Prepare, validate and submit all required VAT and tax withholding returns, supporting schedules and any documentation as required;
Analyze financial data of operating units to ensure compliance with University regulations, make correcting journals and research discrepancies;
Prepare asset, liability, and capital account reconciliations on a monthly basis by compiling and analyzing account information;
Prepare operating unit financial summaries by analyzing activity to date, key trends, and comparing actuals to budget;
Continually analyze financial transactions and reconcile discrepancies by collecting and analyzing operating unit activity;
Substantiate financial transactions by analyzing and auditing source documentation;
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information;
Resolve accounting questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations;
Support annual internal and external audits, prepare PBC schedules and auditor requested items;
Provide support as required to the various areas of the department in order to support the effective day-to-day operations of the unit;
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting;
Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts;
3+ years relevant work experience preferably in accounting and/or audit unit for a large multinational company;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office;
Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills;
Ability to meet deadlines and work under time pressures;
Ability to work with minimal supervision;
Proficiency with the Banner Student Accounts module is a plus;
CPA is desirable;
