Animal Science in the UT Institute of Agriculture is seeking an Accounting Specialist I to provide accounting and financial controls support for the department. This position works in conjunction with Animal Science administrative staff under the direction of the Business Manager.
Position performs accounting functions for four Funds Centers in the Department of Animal Science. Assures UT fiscal policies are followed in accounting procedures and unit expenditures related to invoices, procurement cards, asset management, internal transfers, and Purchasing, as well as problem solving with other university departments. A key responsibility is the processing of travel expenses for all Animal Science employees. Position maintains financial records according to departmental procedures and university policies; oversees records management for purchasing, invoices, procurement cards, assets and acts as a liaison with external vendors and other University departments (i.e. Bookstore, Treasurer's Office, Controller's Office, Office of Information Technology, Surplus, Transportation Services, Graphic Arts, Audit & Compliance, Facilities Services, etc.). Cross-training in all aspects of accounting and some human resource transactions is an integral part of this position.
Specific Duties to include:
Sending reminders, collecting, and entering bi-weekly and monthly timesheets
Processing travel, including conference registration and entering direct-bill of airfare
Accounts Payable – creating vendors, processing invoices and petty cash reimbursements in IRIS
Procurement Card Processing, including gathering & auditing receipts and IRIS input
Accounts Receivable – preparing Cash/check deposits, including IRIS entry
Purchasing – compiling and submitting contracts and purchase requisitions
Inventory – creating assets and assisting Business Manager in maintaining equipment inventory
Serving as departmental reviewer for routine accounting documents
