The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) supports and complements physician care of patients with kidney disease (CKD and/or ESRD) in a variety of settings, including the outpatient and inpatient realms. The position includes outpatient clinic at OHSU sites, inpatient clinical service at OHSU hospital, and travel to independent community dialysis clinics which can be scheduled with flexibility and are under indirect supervision of faculty in the Division of Nephrology. The outpatient and inpatient responsibilities are under the direct or indirect supervision as appropriate with the opportunity for further independent practice based on performance.
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university\u2019s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
As a member of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine, the APP reports to the Division Head (Dr. Susan Gurley) and contributes in each of the following areas:
Clinical. The primary duties include direct patient care, specifically, the APP works with the Nephrology faculty to provide care for kidney patients in OHSU hospital, OHSU clinics, and independent community dialysis centers. In addition to traditional APP responsibilities, the APP conducts comprehensive histories and physical exams, formulates diagnoses based upon data collected from various resources and within the scope of practice, initiates and adjusts therapeutic regimens including medications, assists with dialysis access management, orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies/procedures, initiates consults and referrals, creates initial and follow up encounters, provides patient education, and is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Education. This position participates in the division\u2019s teaching activities, including divisional conferences, student and fellow didactics, and on OHSU committees.
Administration. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.
