The Scholar will work in the laboratory of Principal Investigator Brian Johnstone, PhD, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. The main research focus of the laboratory is stem/progenitor cell-based differentiation and tissue engineering of musculoskeletal tissues.
The Scholar will lead a new project to characterize human articular cartilage progenitor cells. The research will involve a range of cell and molecular biology methods e.g. FACS, RNA-Seq, as well as some aspects of scaffold-free tissue engineering. The Scholar will assist in the design, performance, and analysis of experiments and will work with and train junior members of the research team. The Scholar will be expected to be a major contributor to manuscripts and grant submissions, which will provide career development skills for those desiring future independence.
