PRESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT WRITER , Resource Development-Office of Philanthropic Partnerships (OPP) , to oversee ad hoc development correspondence from MIT's president to a portfolio of major donors and prospective donors held by fund-raisers. Will work in close coordination with fund-raisers, staff in the Office of the President, and other Institute officers; draft correspondence for the Institute's most generous donors; contribute to short- and long-term stewardship strategies for donors; draft meeting follow-up correspondence, special invitations, etc.; work with Donor Relations and Stewardship colleagues to align connection points with donors and friends; work with and improve existing systems in dialogue with colleagues and stakeholders; proofread and copyedit correspondence written by OPP teammates; and maintain accurate records in Advance and donor relations files.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related discipline; three years' relevant work experience in communications, including at least two years' professional writing experience, preferably in development or higher education; history of successfully managing and prioritizing a high volume of deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high standards of accuracy, including while proofreading; strong analytical, organizational, and technical skills; excellent writing skills and proven ability to write in another person's voice; in-depth understanding of English grammar and usage; attention to detail; and experience giving and receiving constructive feedback. Must be able to learn new systems/processes quickly; gather, synthesize, and determine essential data from a variety of written and individual sources; and work independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively with teammates. Should be self-motivated, proactive, comfortable working with senior staff to ensure timely communication with donors, and understand the importance of using discretion when working with alumni records and other sensitive material.
