Job Requisition Number: 26694. The Bancroft Library’s Public Services Department manages the public services functions of the library, including but not limited to running the reading room, paging collection materials, coordinating class and other group visits to the library, registering researchers, fulfilling photoduplication requests, preparing exhibitions, coordinating loans, maintaining the Bancroft stacks, handling permissions requests, etc.
The Public Services Assistant is responsible for fulfilling researcher requests for digital and PDF duplication of Bancroft Library materials, working on the registration and/or circulation desks, and paging material for exhibits, duplication requests and transfers to and from conservation. The successful applicant will interact with other departments on campus for duplication services and will work with these departments to create a better duplication service for our researchers. This employee will be constantly using Millennium, OskiCat, OAC, and Aeon for charging/discharging, tracking materials, and answering reference questions.
Fulfill duplication requests: •Under the direction of the Senior Collections Manager, fulfill researchers’ and Bancroft internal digital photo, and PDF duplication requests.
Cover the Registration and Circulation desks: •Work at the Bancroft Registration and Circulation desks for approximately 4 hours/week to ensure coverage and service during open hours (Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
Managing duplication priorities and workflow: •Creating new workflow procedures and organizing duplication priorities.
Pull materials for exhibitions, loan requests, and transfers to Conservation: •Under the direction of the Senior Collections Manager, pull materials needed for internal exhibitions, external exhibition loans, and transfers to Conservation for assessment and treatment.•Knowledge of digital image file and .pdf creation as well as an understanding of digital file transfer and management. •Ability to work well in a team environment; strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and computer skills to work competently within a PC environment: Windows, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps, and email applications. •Ability to lift 40 lb. boxes. •Must be independent, reliable and able to work within tight deadlines. •Ability to show strengths in work flow strategies and organization. •Must have some sort of experience doing research, or using library research tools, especially in a special collections library. •Must be comfortable working with the public and interacting with colleagues in a cooperative, but busy environment. This position will remain open until filled. This is a one year limited appointment with 43% FTE.
