The Director of Conferencing will be responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating programs and functions in the following areas:
Marketing and securing conferencing activity at Grand View University.
Coordinating and executing conference activities – including summer housing for conference/internship activities.
Overseeing Student Center operations.
The Director of Conferencing will supervise the Welcome Center Administrative Assistant and student work-study positions necessary to fulfill the programs and functions of the areas listed above. This position will work closely with all areas of campus to maximize conferencing on campus and fully utilize the Student Center.
Essential Functions of Job:
Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to market and recruit conferencing at Grand View University, including partnering with faculty and staff to market and recruit conferences, camps, and programs. This would include, but not be limited to:
Academic year conferences and meetings
Camps (athletic and academics)
Hosting International Programs (Study abroad opportunities, English emersion, other international opportunities)
Private affairs (weddings, family reunions, community gatherings, etc.)
Coordinate conference activities
Reserving space for all conference activity (both internal and external)
Set-up, tear-down, monitoring space
Coordinating with maintenance for set-up and tear-down
Coordinating with IT for media and technology needs
Hiring and supervising student staff
Hiring and supervising summer Conference Ambassadors
Current GV students providing services and supervision of conference activity.
Hiring and supervising academic year work-study students to assist with conferencing and Student Center activity.
Coordinating food service with GV Dining
Overseeing and coordinating housing with Residential Life staff
Oversee Student Center operations
Staffing Welcome Center
Supervising Welcome Center Administrative Assistant
Hiring and supervising work-study students to assist with Welcome Center and Student Center activities
Maximizing Student Center usage
Manage all budgets related to job responsibilities.
Participate in continuing professional development.
Participate in other student life efforts as part of the Student Life Office.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.
Experience in conference and event planning at a university setting preferred, but not required.
Leadership qualities including problem-solving abilities, event-planning skills, collaboration, and friendly, courteous, professional behavior required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing required.
Requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Requires occasional abnormal hours that includes evening and weekends for conference programming and events.
Ability to move around campus.
