Position Summary: The Director serves as the senior source of advice, counsel and support in business operations for the UC Health Division within UCOP. The position will oversee - working in part through subordinate staff - Division business process, budget, facilities and maintenance, HR activities, [targeted strategic projects] as well as the immediate office staff.
The Director of Operations will initially report to the Executive Vice President of UC Health.

Duty 1: Ensure that UC Health Division operations are conducted in accordance with University policies and UCOP protocols. Review, maintain, and monitor as needed. Develop Divisional procedures to ensure efficiency, streamlining and best practices.
Oversee the activities of the budget staff responsible for the Division's finances. This includes the development (in collaboration with the EVP and his/her senior team) of an annual operating budget for the Division; approval of expenditures for the division (consistent with delegated authority); and oversight of budget management throughout the year, coordinating with Division staff and the UCOP Budget Office.
Engage and consult on Human Resources issues across the Division, working with UCOP Human Resources and Division staff to develop effective solutions to personnel issues. Serve as the primary point of contact with UCOP HR to actively and expeditiously develop and recruit for positions when hiring decisions have been made by Division management.
Directly manage the Administrative Officer and other Division staff with roles that focus on division operations, such as HR, facilities, and general office management. Convene the EAs and support staff to ensure they are appropriately apprised of Division activities and policy updates and to facilitate communication and collaboration.
Working with Division managers and staff, compile and develop metrics and benchmarks for tracking reporting on the performance of the Division.
Develops and implements a communications plan to apprise staff of relevant updates re University and Departmental activities, as well as policy changes.
Drives, tracks and reports on the progress of the Division and its team members against plans, goals, and objectives. Drives, tracks and reports on other division initiatives as determined by the EVP.
Manage and lead targeted special projects on behalf of the EVP.
Oversee planning and execution of UC Health leadership retreats and other significant convening activities of the Division. Function:Leadership, Coordination and Strategy Percent: 100
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience, and five to seven years of high-level administration and progressive experience in financial and/or budget management.
Demonstrated ability to plan and manage administrative/operational activities from a high-level strategic perspective that takes into account the linkages between different activities within the Division and other departments; ability to evaluate and analyze complex business and operational needs and policies and to develop creative solutions for successful outcomes within an institutional framework.
Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the success of a desired outcome/product; the ability to quickly research and integrate essential information, use that information to define and test options and alternatives, and develop recommendations and justification for the most productive course of action. This requires insightful and creative skills in reasoning and logic.
Proven outstanding oral and written communications skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively present information and complex data, make persuasive explanations and presentations on controversial or complex topics, influence outcomes and tactfully deal with diverse people, situations and ideas.
Demonstrated ability to proactively analyze complex situations and issues creatively and critically, devise strategies for addressing them, and produce clear and effective communication initiatives and materials.
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources accounting, and payroll.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence -- to interact effectively and develop and maintain productive working relationships with an array of diverse interests, individuals, and constituencies. Ability to exercise political acumen and work collaboratively and productively with individuals having varying work styles and personalities. Client services oriented, with excellent listening and critical thinking skills.
Strong analytical skills that demonstrate the ability to guide research and inquiries into complex and emerging areas of budget and financial resources.
Highly organized, meticulous, detail-oriented, and able to follow-through well.
