Job Description The College of Science and Engineering seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Professional Assistant Professor (PAP) faculty position to teach primarily non-majors Biology, along with the majors Biology I and II and some Human Anatomy & Physiology. Promotion to Professional Associate Professor and Professional Professor is possible within the Professional line. The typical teaching assignment for PAP faculty in the Department of Life Sciences is 5:5 courses per academic year. The expected start date will be fall 2019. In addition to teaching introductory level courses, the successful candidate may participate in the University's freshman learning community program, assist with development and coordination of labs and may have opportunities to teach other courses in their areas of expertise.
The Department of Life Sciences has 30 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 5 professional assistant faculty and over 1,200 science majors. It offers B.S. degrees in Biology, Biomedical Science, and Clinical Laboratory Science, M.S. degrees in Biology, Marine Biology, and Fisheries & Mariculture, and a Ph.D. in Marine Biology. The selected PAP will be housed in a new state-of-the-art three-story building, Tidal Hall, which support nine new instructional labs and 34 research labs.
Ph.D. in life sciences or closely related discipline
Demonstrated experience in college-level teaching (lecture and/or laboratory), in Biology including designing laboratories and mentoring/training teaching assistants
Demonstrated experience in college-level teaching (lecture and/or laboratory), in Anatomy & Physiology including designing laboratories and mentoring/training teaching assistants
Experience mentoring students from underrepresented groups in science
