The Division of Cardiology at IUSM has multiple research laboratories conducting studies in various aspects of cardiovascular diseases, including but not limited to electrophysiology, genetics and pulmonary hypertension. The Krannert Institute of Cardiology Clinical Trial Office participates in multiple clinical studies related to clinical cardiology. There are ACGME approved cardiology training programs in cardiovascular diseases, cardiovascular electrophysiology, interventional cardiology and heart failure.

A Research Technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ankit Desai:
Assist the Principal Investigator in laboratory maintenance and research of cardiopulmonary disorders such as pulmonary hypertension, lung injury, and heart failure utilizing benchtop to bedside approaches.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including, but not limited to PCR, cloning, Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, cell and tissue sample based assays, genotyping, etc. Maintain cell lines, perform experiments involving cell culture (mammalian.) Data management of collected study data, and documentation of study results. Assist with writing of research reports and manuscripts. General laboratory maintenance: Maintain lab inventory, restock supplies, maintain laboratory, cleanup, schedule lab meetings, and assist in the maintenance of regulatory compliance such as IRB, biosafety, chemical safety. Other duties as assigned. Must follow established protocols and procedures when available (e.g. qPCR, cloning, cell culture). Assist the PI and senior lab personnel in developing new procedures when needed. Work collaboratively and seek advice from other lab personnel for troubleshooting.
REQUIRED: Bachelor Degree in science/biotechnology/pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent field from an accredited institution, plus 2 years with basic and molecular biology techniques in an academic or industrial lab.
Strong experimental and writing skills. Ability to learn quickly, problem solve, function independently and conduct experiments. Must be proficient in using Microsoft Excel. Highly motivated, and capable of working as a team with good interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time, repetitive movement, moving packaged supplies and the willingness to work with mice.
Equipment utilized: Microsoft Office applications, and equipment such as mechanical pipettes, qPCR machines, plate readers, centrifuges, electrophoresis apparatus, and cell culture hoods.
