As the primary Accounting Technician in the Department of Dramatic Art (DDA) and PlayMakers Repertory Company (PRC), this position will be required to perform independent and complex accounting functions including the ability to understand and apply skilled accounting principles and practices in management of multifaceted financial accounts, reports, operations and records. This position will collaborate with the Business Officer (DDA) and General Manager (PRC) to plan and oversee work assignments and provide training/support to the Business Operations Coordinator. The Accounting Technician will be required to develop and implement strategies, within the Finance Department of the Unit, to ensure that Dramatic Art and PlayMakers are adequately serviced and will need to envision and enhance services when problems arise. In addition, the position will be required to independently problem solve accounting issues, interpret policies and procedures, and ensure those policies are implemented and followed within the Accounting office. Duties performed by this position include but are not limited to budget transfers; budget journals; journal entries; complex financial reporting within ConnectCarolina, Infoporte, and with Tessitura; grant assistance, development and departmental deposits; budget management, scholarship management, and PCard management.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
This position requires: a thorough understanding of a variety of fund types; experience managing financial data, cost-codes, loading budgets, and generating financial reports for various fund types in order to monitor for accuracy; thorough knowledge of government accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices; proficiency in Excel; excellent organizational skills and experience working independently and with minimal supervision; skills in multi-tasking and prioritizing work to effectively manage deadlines. This person must be detail-oriented and have experience independently solving complex problems requiring research. Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are all essential.
Substantial accounting experience at UNC working in ConnectCarolina and Infoporte with financial accounts of moderate to advanced variety and complexity, such as grants (multi-year) and revenue accounts, is highly preferable. Prefer experience with development reporting in Davie and accounting experience working with non-profits.
