The administrative team for the Goddard Planetary Heliophysics Institute (GPHI), The Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science & Technology II (CRESST II) & The Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology (JCET)
The Centers were formed under three distinct Cooperative Agreement awards from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. GPHI is a collaboration between UMBC and University of Maryland, College Park scientists that are supported through the Heliophysics Division at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). CRESSTII is a collaboration between University of Maryland, College Park and UMBC scientists that are supported through the the Earth Sciences Division at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and JCET scientists are supported through the Earth Sciences Division at GSFC. The administrative staff that supports these centers work with UMBC staff, students, research faculty, GSFC Sponsors, appointed fellows and affiliated tenured/tenure-track faculty. The position will be responsible for accounting and financial reports of collaborative research tasks associated with Center's cooperative agreements, grants, and contracts. The Business Specialist's main duties will be to monitor all financial aspects of grant funding from pre-award to close-out. This position is based at UMBC in Catonsville, Maryland but regular travel to GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland is required. Responsibilities include:
Assist faculty members in the submission of grant proposals including generation of the proposal budget
Provide periodic financial summaries to faculty and sponsors as requested
Oversee UMBC approval routing and uploading into the specified submission software
Review and reconciliation of grant and cooperative agreement expenditures and budgets
Review of all expenditures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, UMBC and Sponsor requirements
Provide required monthly financial reports
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in Business, Management, Accounting or Finance. Must proficient in Gmail, MS Excel and Word.
Requires the ability to travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland on a regular basis.
Previous business related experience preferred
Higher education experience helpful
Experience with Google forms and database software is strongly desired
PeopleSoft experience is an asset
Excellent communication skills
Attention to detail
Customer service skills
Some knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants/or contracts desired
