GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Kirkwood Community College Kirkwood Regional Center at University of Iowa (Coralville, IA) seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our faculty to teach concurrent credit courses in the Transportation Career Academy. Courses of instruction could include: Introduction to Automotive Technology, Maintenance and Light Repair, Industrial Math I, Automotive Electricity, Basic Automotive Electricity, Introduction to Metalworking and Refinishing I and II. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the community college level is desirable. Primary duties will include teaching assigned classes and communicating with regional center/department staff, students and faculty, as well as high school administration/students and parents and career and technical teachers to promote the benefits of the Transportation Academy. Must be available to teach daytime classes.

Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media.
Establish and maintain good working relationship with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public.
Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.
Exhibit strong mechanical skills and the ability to effectively manage groups of students working on individual hands-on assignments.
Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.

Position involves occasional (10-33%) sitting and constant (67-100%) standing in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of visual work, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and visualizing three-dimensions from a two-dimensional medium. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally.
Baccalaureate or graduate degree in the area or related area of study or occupational area in which the instructor is teaching classes.
Special training and at least 6,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area or related occupational area in which the instructor teaches classes if the instructor possesses less than a baccalaureate degree.
Successful teaching experience preferred.
Basic computer skills required.
QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicant must be ASE certified.
Must have a valid driver's license.
