The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine - Anatomical Services Division is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Research Supervisor . The Laboratory Research Supervisor assists and directly reports to the Director in overseeing the core mission of the State Anatomy Board and the Anatomical Services Division within the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine. This position supervises laboratory staff including: training, scheduling, coordinating, delegating, monitoring and evaluating workers. The Laboratory Research Supervisor inventories donors and unclaimed bodies as defined by statute, schedule use, transport and cremation. The Laboratory Research Supervisor schedules clinical programs both on and off premise. This role includes, but is not limited to, providing day-to-day laboratory operations oversight. Oversight includes, but not limited to: ensuring quality control, safety compliance, developing policies and procedures, and general operations of the laboratories. The Laboratory Research Supervisor will identify and address issues and deficiencies and implements effective solutions.

Supervise, assign, delegate and oversee laboratory staff and activities. Schedule and coordinate surgical training and lab use.
Oversee the overall lab staff's ability to prepare/embalm for anatomical purposes and create educational specimens.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and legible records for all cadaver requests made and performed. Track cadavers from arrival to final disposition. Schedule and coordinate transfers of individuals from the place of death into the care of the Board. Prepare and coordinate cremations and final disposition.
Perform routine and advanced laboratory operations including monitoring the budget, ensuring quality control and safety compliance, overseeing laboratory maintenance and ordering supplies.
Comply with generally used laboratory practices, implement and coordinate all EHS health and safety standards and minimize the risk to public health and safety by the services provided.
Provide for establishment or development of laboratory by evaluating equipment or machinery to be ordered, planning interactions with IT systems, and drafting Standard Operating Procedures for using new equipment and day-to-day processes.
May Performs independent projects. Compile, analyze, and interpret research data and/or test information and research techniques; and records/reports results.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors in Biology, Chemistry or any field of study related to biomedicine. Masters preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years experience in a mortuary field, with experience in an academic setting preferred.
Supervisory: One (1) year of direct supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
Licensure/Certification: Mortuary Science Degree recommended, but not required.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Must be skilled in data base updates and inventory control.
Ability to work at a fast pace and multi-task.
Ability when necessary to work outside of the 8-4:30 pm framework to meet the needs of the organization. Availability for early start and late departure may be required. Ability to work weekends on an irregular basis required.
Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology in both oral and written communications.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
Ability to network with, and provide information to key groups and individuals.
