Med-Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (19003034)
The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine within the School of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor who will be responsible for studies in the laboratory using neurobiological and pharmacological approaches to use independent judgment to study medical problems related to chronic pain and opiate addiction.
The Laboratory Supervisor will provide their established expertise to collaborate within a large basic science team to support multiple programs of research to collect data and generate new non-opioid pharmacotherapies and analgesic drugs for neurotrauma, arthritis, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. Responsibilities include the participation and oversight of exciting research, for example, the conduct of animal research experiments that include behavioral analysis, optogenetics and chemogenetics, and major survival surgery including AAV virus injection in rodents, and conducting immunohistochemistry and situ hybridization of CNS tissue slices.
Responsibilities include work within a large research group that will facilitate the maintenance of an organized laboratory, performance of in vivo experiments of the central nervous system in rodents, and quickly addressing and resolving any animal health concerns. As Laboratory Supervisor, the candidate will demonstrate supportive and effective written and oral communication skills with fellow researchers, train and supervise temporary employees, undergraduate students, and volunteers, and be responsible for their organization, schedules, and work assignments, as well as train PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. The incumbent will also supervise the maintenance and inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment and will adhere to laboratory manuals, IACUC protocols, and other techniques, making minor modifications as needed to improve laboratory function and efficiency.
Daily work activities will require contact with mice as well as cellular, biochemical and enzymatic assays. The candidate will have strong observational and organizational skills and will efficiently and expertly conduct, analyze and record experimental data. ,
Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or related field or substitution of additional relevant experience
