Initiate and build effective long-term relationships with individuals who have the capacity to give at the major gift level (minimum $25,000).
Secure (within 3 years) $1 million or more annually in total gift commitments, with over $225,000 in current operating gifts.
Develop a cultivation strategy for engaging potential major donors.
Competently represent Furman to volunteers and supporters.
Meet agreed upon fundraising metrics as defined by your supervisor including donor meetings and proposals.
Keep colleagues closely informed regarding prospective and current donors in order to ensure co-ordination and maximize gift potential.
Steward donor relationships in a strategic and creative manner in order to develop and enrich long-term personal relationships between the donor and Furman.
Participate in and attend Furman events as required.
In conjunction with the Director of Donor Relations, implement and maintain appropriate donor acknowledgment for major gift donors.

Execute other tasks within the team as necessary and within established performance standards and office routines.
Participate in relevant meetings and contribute to strategy, discussions, and decisions.
Reports To: Senior Director of Planned and Major Gifts
Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.
Bachelors Degree with 4+ years of experience in related field.
At least three years of gift officer experience with preference given to candidates who have worked in higher education.
Experience with Blackbaud/Raisers Edge preferred.
Must have strong organizational skills and follow-through.
Must maintain attention to detail.
Must be a skilled communicator.
Must be willing to work as a member of an energetic team.
Must be willing to travel frequently, including large volume of day trips and average of two overnight trips per month. Travel requirements constitute approximately 50% of duties.
Must adhere to the stated principles of Development at Furman and acquire an appreciation for Furman's history and aspirations as one of the nation's leading liberal arts institutions.
Successful track record reflecting the ability to secure broad-based financial support through face-to-face meetings and to relate with ease to donors, prospective donors, and volunteers in a variety of settings.
Work is performed under usual office conditions.
