The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Research Specialist in the laboratory of Dr. Folami lderaabdullah. This laboratory studies the role of maternal environment in determining offspring outcomes through epigenetic mechanisms. We use mouse models and human studies to understand how maternal diet, exposure to toxicants, and genetic makeup contribute to offspring epigenetic and developmental outcomes. As Research Specialist, the successful candidate will serve as a lab manager and perform research studies using molecular biology, genetic, and computational approaches to assess the effect of maternal genetic & environmental differences on offspring epigenetic and physiological outcomes.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
The selected candidate must be capable of safely and properly operating basic laboratory equipment. He or she must be able to maintain laboratory resources including supplies, chemicals, equipment, and facilities. Also, this candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with others in the laboratory for the purpose of safety, training, supervision, and dissemination of findings.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics or related field and at least two years lab experience is preferred. Strong academic background in genetics, genomics and/or cell biology with previous laboratory experience. He or she must have understanding of basic genetic principles, programming language skills and aptitude for basic bioinformatic, molecular, and genetic procedures essential to carrying out a supervised research project using human biospecimens & nonhuman model organisms. The ability to understand the safe use of hazardous reagents/materials, centrifuges, spectrophotometers/luminometers, pH meters, air tanks, and fluorescent microscopes is preferred but not required.
