Position Overview This position is located in Kirby Student Center. Leading departmental, divisional, and/or University committee work is an expectation of this position. Evening work hours (and some weekend work hours) are essential for the success of the Greek Life & Leadership Coordinator. The Greek Life & Leadership Coordinator is responsible for vision and advisement of all aspects of Greek Life on campus, including advisement of the student leaders of the Greek Life Council, lnterfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council, guiding student leaders regarding aims, policies, plans and philosophies of the programs. The Greek Life community on the UMD campus consists of approximately 500 student members of 5 fraternities and 5 sororities. This position, in conjunction with other student activities staff, is also responsible for general student organization advisement, providing vision , oversight and support for various student groups and organizations. Additionally, this position will collaborate with the Kirby Leadership Institute Director, co-developing programs to create a diverse and
inclusive University and programs that offer opportunities for students to develop leadership experiences and skills.
Responsibilities Advisor to Greek Life Council and UMD Greek Life (40%) • Serve as a resource for UMD's five fraternities and five sororities, which are a mix of national and local chapters of social and service organizations. • Advise the student leaders of the Greek Life Council (GLC), lnterfraternity Council (IFC), and Panhellenic Council (PHC) on all aspects of Greek Life involvement on campus. • Oversee council meetings, as well as occasional attendance at each of the sororities/fraternities' regular meetings. • Act as staff liaison to fraternities and sororities under IFC and PHC by meeting with chapter leaders. Meet with representatives from international organizations and advisors when necessary. • Lead all aspects of annual Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment using Campus Director Software and the Release Figure Methodology. • Provide Panhellenic Recruitment trainings to sorority officers and advisors. • Provide chapters and councils resources and support for recruitment growth, community building, risk management, academic excellence, social justice, civic engagement, and personal leadership. • Provide educational opportunities that foster an inclusive and responsible environment. • Develop positive working / programmatic relationships with other student organizations in Kirby Student Center and at UMD. • Foster leadership development while promoting a positive culture shift and alignment with best practices within each of the fraternities/sororities and UMD Greek Life. • Manage recruitment, training, and all efforts for UMD staff/faculty advisors to Greek Life organizations . • Serve as sole liaison to organizations' national offices and with sorority/fraternity umbrella organizations (National Panhellenic Conference and North-American lnterfraternity Conference). • Develop vision for expansion of Greek Life at UMD, including communication with campus, community, and prospective chapters. • Ensure management of Greek Life Membership and Scholarship Data report for each semester. • Supervise the Greek Life Intern.
Kirby Leadership Institute Partnership (25%) • Co-develop programming and reporting with the assistant director for Kirby Leadership Institute. • Create integration with faculty and staff to establish new and expanded leadership development tracks. • Align Kirby Leadership Institute programming with established Greek Life leadership programs to assist students in leveraging similar requirements. • Assist in the development and administration of a comprehensive student engagement record. • Provide Kirby Leadership Institute students with progress reports when required. • Serve as an instructor and resource for students enrolled in Kirby Leadership Institute tracks.
Assist in Planning and Development of Programs Sponsored by Kirby Student Center/ Represent Kirby Student Center on University Committees and Working Groups (20%) • Partner with Student Organizations Coordinator to oversee approximately 275 registered student organizations. • Oversee student leaders in the development of events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, Student Awards, and other departmental and university-wide programs. • Serve on departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees as a representative of Kirby Student Center, particularly in student programming, Greek Life, and student development. Serve on the UMD Chemical Health Advisory Committee.
• Actively work to promote diversity and inclusion in Kirby Student Center at UMD. • Establish positive working relationships with local and regional organizations that partner with UMD and with Kirby Student Center.
Student Recognition Programs (10%) • Lead the implementation of the annual Kirby Student Awards process and recognition program for students, faculty, and staff. • Develop program structure for award nominations, reviews of nominations, selection and notification. • Convene award committees for Featherman Award, Siggelkow Award, and other awards as required by the award criteria. • Collaborate with campus partners (Sustainability, Veterans Services) who recognize award winners at the Awards Ceremony. • Serve as the departmental lead for award submissions and nominations for UMD and UM System awards and scholarships (Student Employee of the Year, Darland Scholarships, Outstanding Staff/Team Awards, President's Outstanding Leadership, etc) and awards/scholarships through relevant professional associations such as Association of College Unions International, Association of College Conference & Events Directors, NASPA-Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education, National Association of Campus Auxiliary Services, etc.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%) • Develop annual reports and create annual Student Services Fee budget presentations through data reporting to administrators. • Collaborate with Kirby.Assessment Liaison in meeting reporting requirements . • Distribute annual Alpha Nu Omega scholarships. • Serve as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act. • Other duties as assigned in support of the programs, services, and facilities of Kirby Student Center, Division of Student Life and University of Minnesota Duluth strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree with at least 4 years of related post-baccalaureate experience, to include at least 1 year of experience planning, implementing and supervising Greek Life programs at the collegiate level; • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and/or committees with various campus stakeholders; • Demonstrated skill in decision-making and in oversight of the success of programs and events; • Demonstrated ability to work with people from different backgrounds or cultures.
Preferred Qualifications • Master's Degree in student affairs or related field; • Experience with management of formal sorority recruitment processes and knowledge of Release Figure Methodology (RFM), and experience with fraternity recruitment procedures; • Demonstrated experience with leadership development programs at the collegiate level; • Proven ability to communicate with multiple constituencies, and a documented record of providing programs and/or services to a diverse student population; • Demonstrated commitment to providing a student-centered approach to advisement and supervision of student employees and student organization leaders; • Demonstrated experience in increasing inclusion, diversity, and equity in the workplace and/or in the development of student leaders and student employees; • Past experience in community outreach with underrepresented groups, multicultural environments, or diverse populations; • Demonstrated ability to collaborate by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, and students across a university system.
