Hagerstown Community College is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for a Faculty, Environmental Studies/Life Sciences position.
This is a 10-month faculty position for Environmental Studies/Life Sciences. The primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in Environmental Sciences (including Public Health and Sustainability) and Biology. Faculty in this position may be required to also teach courses in other Life or Physical Science courses (such as Biotechnology, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensics or Chemistry, etc.) as necessary to support the mission and needs of the division. This position will be located with the Mathematics and Science Division, and will fulfill all the responsibilities and expectations of a regular HCC faculty member. Additionally, this position will have the responsibility for leadership of oversight of the Environmental Studies program, including recruitment, curriculum development, Student Learning Outcomes Assessment, and oversight of adjuncts teaching in the program.
Education and experience - This position requires a minimum of a master's degree in Environmental Science/Biology or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate documentation of successful teaching experience at the community college/undergraduate level. A PhD in Environmental Science, Biology or related field is a plus. Experience with grant writing is very desirable.
Skills and abilities - Candidates should possess excellent written, oral and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration and community partners. Candidates must possess foundational skills in the laboratory and field settings and be able to convey these skills and methodologies to students. The candidate should be able to use sophisticated laboratory equipment including but not limited to: Lab-Quest Vernier probe-ware (or similar), microscopes, instrumentation (like HPLC, IR-Spectroscopy, gas chromatography, Electrophoresis etc.). Experience with faculty advising is preferred.
