Essential Functions: The successful candidate will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary laboratory with close collaborations with industry. Established mouse and swine models are available to address the short lifespan and performance of continuous glucose sensors and/or continuous insulin infusion systems. Research technicians including a trained histopathologist will work closely with the junior faculty to ensure productivity and success in the studies. Essential Functions:Conduct research on extending the lifespan of the artificial pancreas, particularly as it pertains to continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), currently FDA approved for 3-days. Conduct research focused on the total impact of insulin, insulin formulations, catheter material, and biomechanical effects on the infusion site tissue biology and function.
Qualifications: Candidate must have multiple years of experience following a Ph.D. in pharmacology, biomedical engineering, immunology, cell biology, or related field. The candidate should also have an excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written. The candidate should have experience in techniques in cell culture, molecular biology, protein isolation and protein characterization. In addition, the candidate should have experience in survival surgery in small laboratory animals, significant experience with statistical and computer software including all of the Office suite programs (word, power point Excel) is desirable.Expertise in pharmacokinetic and cell biology is desired as the individual will assist in the analyses of PK/PD derived swine data.
