The Department of Biological Chemistry is looking for a motivated Research Lab Tech Intermediate to work in a laboratory studying molecular mechanisms of membrane trafficking, remodeling and repair. The applicant will help with general laboratory operations and contribute to research project(s) appropriate for his/her training level. He/she will work closely with the principle investigator and senior laboratory scientists.
The successful candidate will have responsibilities in the areas listed below, with specific assignment depending on previous experience as well as interest and long-term career development goals:
Lab maintenance and organization including chemical ordering and inventory tracking, solution preparation, dishwashing and autoclaving.
Molecular biology: plasmid cloning, PCR analyses, other molecular biology experiments.
Mammalian cell culture including transfection and cell line selection.
Protein expression and purification for functional analyses and reconstitution.
Confocal microscopy and image analysis of fixed and living cells.
Preparation of cultured cells for analysis by electron microscopy.
Active engagement in the scientific mission of the laboratory, with ability and interest in reading and discussing relevant scientific literature.
HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 1-3 years experience required. Bachelor’s degree strong preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry or Biology or related field with previous laboratory research experience. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with laboratory team members. The successful applicant will be looking to advance their training while contributing to the research output of the laboratory.
