The Institute for Quantitative Health Science & Engineering (IQ) invites applications from outstanding candidates for Research Associate, Postdoctoral, Positions (fixed-term research associate) in the field of Developmental and Stem Cell Biology.
The Aguirre Lab at Michigan State University focuses on investigating the pathways that control development, regeneration and cell fate, with an emphasis on the cardiovascular system. Our final goal is to understand and harness the regenerative power within our own cells and organs for therapy. The primary goal of the successful candidate will be to characterize the role of novel bioactive lipid signaling molecules and pathways in cardiovascular development, stem cell differentiation and regeneration. This will involve work with human iPSCs, transcriptomics, LC-MS-based mass spectrometry, cardiac organoids and animal models such as the mouse and zebrafish. The environment in the Aguirre Lab is highly multidisciplinary and collaborative. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in related secondary projects and collaborations with other IQ labs. The Aguirre Lab is highly committed to the academic and professional development of our trainees.
The Aguirre lab is located in the brand-new Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) at MSU, and has a strong core of leading scientists working collaboratively across broad disciplines including: neuroengineering, motion analytics, developmental biology, stem cell biology, systems biology, synthetic biology, regenerative medicine, chemical biology and biomedical devices.
MSU provides competitive salary and excellent benefits for the position. This position will be funded for one year with renewal yearly, for up to three years, based upon funding and performance.
Review of applications begins on April 22, 2019 and will remain open until filled.
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, physiology, biomedical engineering, tissue engineering or related disciplines.
Candidates must have demonstrated cell and molecular biology experience, excellent oral and written communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. The ideal candidates will be motivated and creative individuals with a commitment to academic research who can work independently as well as in team-based projects. A background or previous experience in stem cell biology, lipid biology, cardiovascular disease, mouse and/or zebrafish animal models will be beneficial.
