The Department of Surgery Medical Education Specialist will be responsible for both curriculum and research within all educational programs in the Department of Surgery. The primary curricular responsibility will be for development of new curricula for the surgical residency program. This will include development and implementation of a Healthcare Policy/Advocacy curriculum and further development of the Practice Management and Wellness curricula. Assessment of the traditional didactic curriculum as well as these new curricula is expected.
In addition to implementation research, this person will direct the educational research efforts of the Department of Surgery. This will include primary research at his/ her/their direction in addition to collaboration with the multiple investigators that exist within the Department. It is expected that this will include independent grant support within the first 5 years of hire.
Finally, this person will serve as a primary mentor for research residents in the educational laboratories of the Department of Surgery as well as have responsibilities for the education of all research residents.
