Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the incumbent serves as a member of the Student Financial Aid counseling team. In addition to primary responsibilities providing direct one on one counseling to students regarding financial aid matters, the position requires supervision of a number of Federal and State aid programs, and the ability to know and interpret applicable regulations and work independently.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees all aspects of the Federal database matching process, including making final determination on acceptable documentation.
Assists the director with the awarding of various Federal and State Aid programs.
Verify financial aid applications according to Federal, State and institutional guidelines, make final decisions on eligibility and make corrections as appropriate.
Provides customer service and counseling to students and parents via telephone or in-person regarding financial aid programs and sources of tuition financing. Resolves any problems with a student’s financial aid application. Reviews student accounts with families and ensures aid has posted properly to account.
Supervises student workers as required for the completion of projects.
Participate in on-campus recruitment and orientation programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in a field related to the position, or equivalency, as determined by the appointing authority (additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for education upon the discretion of the hiring manager).
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion; good judgment, demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills
Ability to set work priorities, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience working in a financial aid office preferred
Experience working with the Banner student information system strongly preferred
Knowledge of automated financial aid systems strongly preferred, including COD, NSLDS, FAA Access and CPS
