Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Purpose of Position:
The Research Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, managing, and implementing the research activities of the Chen and Honey Labs in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences. Following established protocols under the supervision of two faculty investigators and/or their respective researchers, the Research Program Coordinator performs data analysis tasks; runs participants in behavioral, fMRI, and EEG experiments; maintains records of research participants (consent forms, HIPAA agreements, screening agreements); assists lab members with data collection, analysis, and technical troubleshooting; and, manages the general administration of each lab. This is a full-time position contingent upon the availability of funds.
Knowledge and Skill:
Strong programming skills required (Matlab or Python, experience with other languages a plus).
Working knowledge of basic statistics required.
Ability to work independently as well as part of two research teams.
Interpersonal skills to interact with research participants.
Knowledge of research protocols helpful (IRB, HIPAA, consent forms and procedures).
Knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel), email software (MS Exchange or similar), Adobe, internet browser, web content management system (WordPress or similar), electronic IRB software.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification:
Bachelor's degree in related in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
Three years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Working with Research Participants – 20%
Coordinate and implement recruitment efforts to obtain participants for research studies.
Schedule research participants for testing.
Assist with testing of research participants.
Ensure that participant consent process is appropriately administered to each research participant.
Data Analysis; Data Management – 20%
Perform statistical analysis on raw data collected through various experiments.
Set up and maintain neuroimaging analysis infrastructure.
Maintain HIPAA-compliant participant database.
Maintain data archives.
Organize study files.
Coordinate lab access to the MARCC.
Lab Group(s) Participation – 20%
Actively participate in lab meetings and group discussion
Collaborate with lab members on current/ongoing projects, including assisting with experimental set-up, programming and data analysis as needed.
Lab Administration - 20%
Review fMRI scanning invoices for correctness.
Liaise between Kennedy Krieger Institute, PBS administrative office, and KSAS Business and Research Administration as necessary regarding invoice payment.
Order lab supplies as necessary.
Liaise with collaborating labs at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, etc., as necessary regarding ongoing projects.
Works with PI’s, postdoctoral fellows, students, and department IT staff to ensure experimental data is organized, secure, and adequately backed up.
Works with PI’s to assist with journal article and grant submissions and grant progress reports as needed.
Maintain lab wiki, calendar, and website.
Schedule itineraries for scholars visiting the lab.
Experimental Design and Implementation - 10 %
Code scripts for stimulus presentation and behavioral data collection.
Supervision of Undergraduate Research Assistants (RAs) – 7%
Supervise RAs while they interact with research participants, etc.
Mentor RAs by working through academic research papers with them, discussing ongoing projects in the lab, assisting them with their required research report, etc.
IRB Protocol – 3%
Maintain IRB documents, including consent forms for all study participants.
Prepare protocol documents for IRB.
Liaise between labs and IRB.
Prepare progress reports for IRB.
